Yesterday was that time of the year again, April Fools’ Day, the day of pranks and LOL’s. Here is a quick roundup of some of the main April Fools’ from across the Internet that I stumbled upon.
Firstly, from Google:
- Google had announced that it was changing it’s name to Topeka, after the Kansas town of Topeka in question had decided to change it’s name to Google. “Let me just Topeka that for you…“
- Google also announced it’s new Android App, called ‘Google Translate for Animals‘, a new service that allows you to translate the grunts and barks of animals into recognisable speech.
- YouTube had introduced a new ASCII text based video format, which is meant to be designed to reduce bandwidth (it doesn’t, the effect is done post-download). It’s a shame they’ve now taken it off, it was quite funky. Coincidently, they also updated the layout on the same day, but as a permanent change.
- I’ve also heard of Gmail removing all vowels out of words, making it quite annoying to read.
- Google Japan have released a new drum based keyboard.
With deviantART, they made a few changes too:
- They changed everyone’s avatars to either Team Jacob or Team Seeker photos (from Twilight), and also of Lady Gaga too.
- The new Lllama Badge was also added, where people could give other uses a badge of a llama free of charge (it is still active after yesterday).
Various news websites include a secret hidden level of Mario Bros. Wii, World of Warcraft designed to work out the size of your e-peen (and various others), CollegeHumor’s website being taken over by the FBI and more.
Surely there are hundreds of similar things that have happened, so post about the one’s you’ve found in a comment. =]
